Volunteering and giving back in our communities is a long-standing tradition of Bloomberg\u2019s culture, one that builds on the commitment to service established by our founder Mike Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

These philanthropic efforts advance the company\u2019s core values of diversity and inclusion, sustainability, and wellness \u2013 and are accomplished as part of Bloomberg Philanthropies, to ensure better and longer lives for the greatest number of people.<\/p>\n

Here are some highlights from our philanthropy and engagement 2017 year-end in review<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\nWe expanded our legacy of caring for our communities <\/strong>
\nIn 2017, over 12,000 employees in 92 cities around the world dedicated more than 145,000 hours of volunteer service in their communities for 2,300 nonprofit partners.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We inspired and supported the next generation <\/strong>
\nThrough Bloomberg Startup mentoring and education initiatives, 3,650 employees led and designed activities in collaboration with our nonprofit partners to support academic achievement and prepare students for further education and careers, especially in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics).<\/p>\n

In partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, Startup awarded 35 scholarships for the inaugural class of the Bloomberg Startup Scholars program to provide 35 high-achieving, low-income students globally to gain opportunities for higher education.<\/p>\n

We offered up our talents to serve<\/strong>
\nEmployees across Bloomberg offered their talents to help their local communities. This included Bloomberg legal experts providing 2,400 hours of free legal services for underserved communities for our Pro Bono program.<\/p>\n

Our Data team in London lent their technical skills in data science, software development, and design for DataKind\u2019s DataDive, a hackathon-style weekend event; helping nonprofits use data to gain insight into how 500 homeless organizations across the U.K. can better track and distribute their services.<\/p>\n

We grew our community engagements with clients <\/strong>
\nOur community involvement with Bloomberg customers deepened in 2017. We invited our customers running in the Square Mile Relay to join us for a day of service. Together, we installed a new rain garden and bio swale in Governor\u2019s Island<\/a> in New York and built a playground for children in need with Playground of Hope<\/a> in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

Since the inception of our partnership in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Initiative<\/a>, the one-day coaching session has provided 65 U.S. and 30 U.K. businesses 2,500 cumulative hours of pro bono services from more than 230 volunteers.<\/p>\n

We celebrated Bloomberg\u2019s 35 years<\/strong>
\nIn honor of Bloomberg\u2019s 35th anniversary of bringing transparency to the financial markets, we highlighted 35 of our non-profit partners and our collaborations together.<\/p>\n
