At the core of this program is a proprietary, robust real-time NLP library that performs low-level text resolution tasks, such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tokenization<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chunking<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">parsing<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Sitting on top of this core toolset, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">named entity extractors<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> detect people, companies, tickers and organizations found in the natural text in our news and social text databases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These named entity extractors are crucial for enabling our <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sentiment analysis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> functions on the Bloomberg Terminal (BSV &lt;GO&gt; and TREN &lt;GO&gt;), derived indicators that estimate how positive or negative a piece of news is for a particular company. Beyond that, our <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">topic classification engine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> automatically tags documents with normalized topics (such as oil) to make retrieval and monitoring straightforward. We have also built a large suite of tools for structured data, including our <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">table detection and segmentation<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tools that enable our analysts to increase their scope of ingested data, as well as systems for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">figure understanding<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that extract the underlying data from scatter plots. Our <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">self-service topic streams<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> enable our reporters to find news about the companies or sectors they cover.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While these core NLP tools stay strictly within the domain of text, we have built significant functionality that connects text to other artifacts, such as people or stock tickers.
