The department is a quintessential representation of Bloomberg’s position at the intersection of finance and technology, made up of employees with experience in either or both areas who are looking to gain exposure and make an impact within the wider financial data and analytics industry. To promote continuous learning and facilitate career growth, Financial Solutions encourages employees to broaden their skill sets and provides development and mobility within the company.

The department includes three primary groups: Sales, Enterprise Services, and User Support, as well as several other specialized support groups.

Sales: The art of selling collaboratively

Sales, Financial Solution’s largest team, engages with clients, learns about their intricate business processes, and helps them address pain points and seize business opportunities.

When you join Sales, you’re empowered to develop in-depth knowledge of the Bloomberg Terminal and our other products and solutions. You can then specialize in specific solutions for the buy-side, sell-side, Data products and Indices, or other areas. The ultimate goal in Sales at Bloomberg, as explained by one of our recruiters, is to create a central point of contact for our clients, meeting all their needs. Sales is designed as “a one-stop department that covers client interactions from all different perspectives, whether it’s sales, pre-sales, post-sales, or covering any type of client and marketing activities.”

Being successful in Sales at Bloomberg requires a uniquely collaborative approach. Here, predicting and satisfying a customer’s needs requires working with multiple people on different teams – both across and beyond the broader department. While our Sales employees focus on the right solutions for our clients and prospects, Financial Solutions is committed to ensuring our employees’ growth and development at the same time.

The Financial Solutions Knowledge Group is dedicated to ensuring Sales employees are equipped with comprehensive training and up-to-the-minute knowledge of financial market trends. This team develops bespoke tools, training, and development to ensure our people are set up for success as subject matter experts.

Sales also supports a wide range of networking opportunities, from partnerships between junior and senior sales professionals to formal and informal mentoring that fosters a dynamic and supportive learning environment.

Given the depth of knowledge required, most of those hired for Sales roles are already experienced in the industry, possess an entrepreneurial mindset, and are primed to gain a deep understanding of Bloomberg products. This enterprising outlook is not only a requirement; it’s an essential trait that the firm values as an element of our culture. We encourage our teams to seamlessly innovate, anticipate market trends, and deliver unsurpassed service and support to our clients.

Success in this role also depends on meaningful collaboration with other members of the team. To ensure that you’ll receive immediate feedback on your performance, including areas where you excel and those that require additional focus, your activity will measure against key performance indicators. This data-driven approach manages employee performance and makes it easy to align your activities with company objectives, gain recognition for your efforts, and advance your career within the company.

While most sales roles require travel, the firm’s travel policies place employees’ wellbeing at the forefront. We go above and beyond the industry standard and prioritize first-rate comfort and convenience to ensure that employees feel supported while on the road.

Enterprise Services: Finance meets technology

Enterprise Services ensures our clients have a smooth experience after the initial sale, providing bespoke assistance with product implementation and specialized technical support. The group employs solution architects, implementation specialists, and technical support professionals to help customers understand and incorporate our products’ functionality into their workflows. “Enterprise Services is designed to provide specialty services to Bloomberg users,” explains one of our recruiters. “This group encompasses all the post-sales activities that enable our customers to make the best of the solutions they’ve acquired.”

Thanks to their expertise in both technology and finance, Enterprise Services employees ensure that our clients have access to advanced technical support and specialist knowledge of financial products and markets. Since advanced knowledge is required, the group primarily hires experienced professionals.

Enterprise Services is a client-facing role that requires strong interpersonal skills. Clients sometimes even interact more frequently with this team than with the Sales team. A consultative approach is a core component of the role, as is a clear understanding of each customer’s business so that we deliver the right solutions. This also requires gleaning the customer’s perspective, a proactive response to their needs, and a desire to work in a dynamic, high-pressure setting.

Once you’ve developed complete literacy of Bloomberg’s products, there’s no shortage of career options within the firm. Some employees move to product development and many grow within the Sales organization.  After achieving proficiency in how clients specifically use our technology and products, the transition from Enterprise to Sales can be very intuitive.

Our focus on internal mobility allows for progression into management and leadership as employees gain experience in different areas of the business. These are only a few of the additional opportunities you can pursue within Bloomberg.

User Support and Experience: A valuable foundation for a Bloomberg career

The User Support group consists primarily of entry-level roles within areas like Customer Support and Analytics. Positions in both areas become very specialized, but all focus on the company’s dedication to providing a seamless client experience. This level of  exposure makes the group ideal for someone interested in laying the foundation for a successful career at Bloomberg.

For those with elevated technical knowledge and commensurate experience in the industry, Bloomberg Technical Support and Bloomberg On-site Support are two teams that leverage this expertise to the fullest. On-site Support provides 24/7 on-site technical solutions to our internal and external customers in more than 75 countries. Technical Support is the global front line of service for a variety of products and services across multiple connectivity mediums. This is a high-profile team within Bloomberg, and one that requires the best in technical troubleshooting.

Analytics team members focus on the financial markets, helping our clients make the best use of the Bloomberg Terminal to make decisions. This experience most often leads to a career in Sales. Those in Customer Support handle the day-to-day challenges that clients face, such as problems with login credentials or the inability to access specific datasets. Customer Support also identifies and documents issues beyond their expertise and escalates them to Bloomberg’s specialized teams. While the role is focused on tactical support, you’ll also play a crucial role in upholding Bloomberg’s reputation for outstanding customer service, which includes fast response times and efficient issue resolution.

Most entry-level employees hired within Analytics and Customer Support transition to new roles within Bloomberg after a couple of years. And throughout your tenure, you’ll have access to education and training to facilitate your career growth, as well as opportunities to learn about the many aspects of Bloomberg’s advanced operations.

In User Support, you will deliver the level of service and support essential to Bloomberg’s success, but you’ll also pave the way for a successful career in the firm. This can include a transfer to another department that best aligns with your interests, a promotion to a specialized field, or the chance to assume a managerial or leadership role.
