How Bloomberg internships can lead to fulfilling careers
March 10, 2023
There’s much for students to gain from a valuable summer internship experience – most notably the opportunity to pursue a fulfilling, full-time career at a company they feel connected to. At Bloomberg, we pride ourselves on recruiting and fostering talent. This begins with our summer interns, many of whom go on to accept positions as full-time employees.
Here, three Bloomberg employees who started as interns share their experiences and advice from offices around the world.
Make it happen here.

Haley Greenspan
Data Analyst, Princeton
What made you decide to work here full time after your internship?
In 2020, I had my first real experience working on a data engineering project, utilizing the company’s tech stack to improve data quality and completeness. I have always been interested in data analysis and engineering, and enjoyed the process of using technology to address a real-world problem. I enjoyed the collaboration between the Data department and the Data Technology team in the Engineering departments, and knew I wanted to continue in the space full time.
What was the transition like from intern to full- time employee? What stood out or surprised you?
Starting as a full- time employee was essentially a more in-depth extension of the internship. Through the Data Training Program, we were introduced to other teams and departments within the company. As a returning intern on the Corporate Actions team, I was familiar with several employees on the team and enjoyed meeting them in- person, as well as the other returning interns from 2019 and 2020.
One thing that surprised me starting full-time was the rate of change and progress at the company. Many of the automation initiatives discussed as an intern had been achieved, and new areas of opportunity were being identified and solved.
What do you think sets Bloomberg apart as a company? What keeps you here?
Definitely the culture. Everyone at the company is smart, driven, and extremely collaborative. Bloomberg places a strong emphasis on teamwork, which I have experienced both within my own team, between teams within Data, as well as between departments such as Data, Engineering Data Technology, and News. There is always a capacity for collaboration.
What would you recommend about a career at Bloomberg to a future intern?
I would recommend a career at Bloomberg for anyone interested in financial markets, data and teamwork. There are endless opportunities to create your own path at the company and collaborate across teams. For future interns, I would emphasize the importance of networking to establish connections and create space for collaboration, as well as the importance of always being open to learning.

When were you a Bloomberg intern? How would you define your experience?
I interned at Bloomberg in the summer of 2020. I loved the work and learning about different opportunities within the company. I thought that this would be a great place to start my career, while also learning on the job every day.
What was the transition like from intern to full-time employee? What stood out or surprised you?
As an intern, you get to discover all sorts of different teams and products, and talk to people who’ve been here for years. The internship really gave me the motivation to work hard and invest time in learning and progressing, as I knew it was going to be worth it.
What kind of support and opportunities have you received since working at Bloomberg full time?
At Bloomberg, there is a culture of being available to our colleagues, which means that we can always reach out for help and support. In terms of opportunity, I feel like I’ve been progressing quickly and always stayed challenged in my role, which isn’t always the case as young graduates.
What do you think sets Bloomberg apart as a company? What keeps you here?
Bloomberg gives its employees opportunities to progress continuously, which means we’re always learning and being stretched outside of our comfort zones. For me, this feeling of always coming in and being able to learn is what I’m grateful for.

Bloomberg Customer Support, Tokyo
When were you a Bloomberg intern? What made you decide to intern at the company? How would you define your experience?
I interned at Bloomberg in the summer of 2021. I wanted to work in a fast-paced environment where I can challenge myself and learn how various stakeholders play a critical role within the financial markets. The experience that I gained exceeded my expectations. I had the opportunity to expand my horizon outside of my department while working on numerous projects on understanding our clients’ workflow and needs. Towards the end of the internship program, I was able to pitch ideas to my manager and work towards their objectives. I truly felt that I was able to contribute in various ways and add value to the team.
What made you decide to work here full-time in the Bloomberg Customer Support Team after your internship?
I decided to work at Bloomberg full-time for three main reasons. First, during my internship, I saw the impact that BCS has in solving our client’s workflow issues. We solve clients’ issues so that they can get the most out of Bloomberg products. Second, BCS stood out as one of the few departments to have significant exposure to both clients and internal stakeholders. As a result, the role helps you to develop a client-centric mindset and strong stakeholder management skills. Third, I enjoyed connecting and working on projects with colleagues across the globe. From the initial coffee chat with my fellow interns in Hong Kong to a mentor session with my colleagues from Sydney, I was able to gain valuable knowledge. At the end of my internship, I saw that Bloomberg offered a tremendous career growth opportunity that was difficult to match by others.
What kind of support and opportunities have you received since working at Bloomberg full time?
I received a lot of support and opportunities in my role. When I first started, I participated in the initial training program in which I learned more about the role and how it fits into the overall Bloomberg organization. Throughout the training program I was able to develop various skills, including but not limited to, strong communication, multitasking and time management skills. Soon I realized that the skills I gained during the training program were vital to my daily workflow in assisting our clients effectively in a timely manner. After training, I was placed in a 10-week mentorship program in which I was assigned a mentor who helped me adjust to my role. My mentor shared various projects and introduced other team members who had pathed out to different departments, to help me navigate my future career progression within Bloomberg.
When I had questions, my team leader and colleagues were always receptive and offered support when needed. I had a bi-weekly 1-on-1 session with my team leader during which I could discuss my projects and address both professional and personal goals or concerns. I, similar to all other employees, have access to numerous resources such as Bloomberg University courses that allow me to gain knowledge and skills to drive my career forward.
What do you think sets Bloomberg apart as a company? What keeps you here?
The people and culture set Bloomberg apart and kept me here. My colleagues have been very supportive and collaborative. I would describe the culture as transparent and dynamic. At Bloomberg, you feel empowered to ask questions and receive feedback from others to improve ourselves daily. The environment is fast-paced and my responsibilities vary widely, such that it is not repetitive. I had the privilege of being involved in a global town hall event where I had to deliver the opening remarks to set the tone for the rest of the event. The global town hall event highlighted the collaboration across different departments like Analytics, Technical Support, Sales, BCS and others. Exchanging ideas with leaders at the global level really opened my eyes to see their perspectives and understand how leaders set their mindset within each department. It is immensely satisfying to be part of such a dynamic company because I’m constantly exposed to new opportunities that help me to grow.
