Why did you choose to work at Bloomberg?
After working for an automotive company, I spent many years as a ranked equity research analyst focused on the Japanese automotive industry at several brokerage firms. One day, I saw on LinkedIn that Bloomberg was looking for an analyst to cover the Japanese automotive industry. Bloomberg delivers a wide range of information from a global perspective, so I felt it would be a great opportunity to utilize and further hone my expertise.

The automotive field has a long history and is often viewed as an old industry compared with the technology sector, but advances in the latter have also led to advances in automobiles. For instance, the automotive industry is now being shaped by CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electrification) technologies, and it’s so exciting to witness the dynamic changes in this space.
What do you think sets Bloomberg apart as a company?
My workplace is filled with people who love Bloomberg. The atmosphere is polite yet never stiff, and there are many friendly individuals. Even when I pass people I don’t personally know in the hallway or on the stairs, we always greet one another. Being surrounded by such people every day inspires me to be like them.
What support and opportunities have you received during your time at Bloomberg?
Shortly after I joined Bloomberg, the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. Bloomberg’s response was swift and thorough, and made me realize how fortunate I am to work for the company. I was very grateful for the partitions and other measures taken to prevent the spread of infection in the office, the support for telecommuting, the distribution of masks (which were in short supply at the time), the provision of antigen testing kits and the vaccination efforts.
What is the best thing about Bloomberg’s company culture?
I really like the “Team Bloomberg” approach, which celebrates diversity across language, culture, gender, race and areas of expertise. We all work together toward our goal of providing clients with valuable information in an accurate and timely manner.

Senior Associate Analyst (Autos), Bloomberg Intelligence, Tokyo
Why did you choose to work at Bloomberg?
Simply put, it’s how passionate people here are about their work. My first encounter with Bloomberg was at the Boston Career Forum, where I talked to employees from various departments across the firm. What set Bloomberg apart from the other companies there was the sheer enthusiasm and energy emanating from its people. I was attracted by how sincerely they shared stories about their work – and that was when I decided that I wanted to join Bloomberg. Working with people who take pride in what they do is a constant source of inspiration and motivation for me.

I work in the equity research department as an associate analyst on the autos team. Our department conducts in-depth research on companies and industries within our scope of coverage. The most rewarding part of my job is being able to continually expand my knowledge base — every day, I develop a better understanding of my industry and companies. There’s also something very gratifying about seeing your own name on a published report you’ve put together!
How does working at Bloomberg encourage you to be yourself?
Throughout my time at Bloomberg, I’ve discovered that the company really encourages you to pursue a career path that fits your personal interests, strengths, ambitions and long-term goals. For example, I started out in the Analytics department before joining the team in charge of BI data requests, and then finally moving to the BI team itself. I feel that my personal strengths and passions lie in a more research-oriented role, and I’ve always enjoyed the research process — especially the moment when things start falling into place and you gain an understanding of the bigger picture.
What support and opportunities have you received during your time at Bloomberg?
I’ve received a lot of advice on what the next steps of my career should look like, but what really impressed me was how supportive my previous team leader was when I told her I wanted to pursue opportunities elsewhere within the company.
In my current department, I’m constantly encouraged to take on new challenges. Some of these challenges take me out of my comfort zone, but I always have the support and guidance of an experienced mentor.
What is the best thing about Bloomberg’s company culture?
I would say how open, non-judgmental and supportive people are. For instance, I can always go to my team leader with any concerns, and she is always willing to offer advice and find solutions. In addition, Bloomberg has a very diverse workforce. I get to work with colleagues from all over the world and all walks of life, which is enriching both professionally and personally.
