Bloomberg Finance Pathways: Unlocking Opportunities for the Next Generation

December 15, 2025

Opportunity shouldn’t depend on where you start — and at Bloomberg, we’re working to make sure it doesn’t. That belief is at the heart of Bloomberg Finance Pathways, our global initiative bringing together influential leaders across the public and private sectors to demystify the field of finance for the next generation. The program also deepens Bloomberg’s relationships with leaders across the financial and policy landscape — strengthening its role as a convener in the global finance ecosystem, ensuring that insights flow both to the next generation and between key stakeholders.

We know that talent is everywhere, but access isn’t. By giving young people hands-on learning, mentorship, and real exposure to financial markets, we’re helping them gain the confidence — and the network — to succeed. Because when more individuals  can take part in finance, the whole system becomes stronger, smarter, and more inclusive. “By connecting students with influential voices from across industries, we’re providing them with the tools and experience to realize their potential and helping to make the finance industry more accessible and future-ready,” says Jemma Read, Global Head of Corporate Philanthropy.

Turning Belief into Action — and Potential into Opportunity

In mid-November, fifteen university students traded lecture halls for the corridors of power. Over three days in Brussels, they joined the Bloomberg Finance Pathways Study Trip — a journey into the heart of European finance.

Their itinerary read like a masterclass in how ideas shape economies. At the European Commission, they sat across from Maria Luís Albuquerque, who leads the EU’s work on financial services, and Paulina Dejmek Hack, Head of Cabinet to Commissioner Jessica Roswall — two of Europe’s most influential women driving the continent’s financial future.

It was the Commissioner’s  first engagement with the program, and she didn’t hold back. In a candid Q&A, students asked about everything from financial literacy to navigating setbacks. The exchange was honest, lively, and deeply human — a reminder that finance is as much about resilience and perspective as it is about policy.

Hearing directly from the Commissioner about her journey from national politics to the European stage was both inspiring and eye-opening,” said one student. “It showed us that leadership in finance isn’t just about numbers — it’s about values and resilience.”

In the Heart of the EU Bubble

Beyond the Commission, the students saw how the EU’s ecosystem of institutions connects ideas to action. They watched a plenary vote in the European Parliament, explored the National Bank of Belgium’s Museum, and visited Bloomberg’s Brussels newsroom, where colleagues from across teams — News, Sales, Government Relations, and HR — showed how our data, insights, and journalism help make sense of complex markets.

“Watching the voting process in Parliament was incredible,” said another participant. “It made the European Union feel tangible — not distant.”

These moments turned abstract systems into something real. The students didn’t just learn how finance functions — they saw how people and policy come together to shape it.

Confidence in Action

Between policy briefings and newsroom tours, students dug into the practical side of career-building. Bloomberg’s HR team led a CV workshop — dubbed “the best ever” by educational non-profit partners — followed by Bloomberg News journalist Saim Saeed, who shared tips for writing authentic motivation letters and owning the interview process.

Evenings brought connection: a mentoring dinner with EU leaders and a speed-networking session hosted by long-time client Degroof Petercam, where students swapped stories and advice with professionals who’d once been in their shoes. Strong partnerships like this one enable us to build environments where learning, leadership, and opportunity come together. They also highlight how Finance Pathways serves as a touchpoint for deepening Bloomberg’s engagement with influential clients, policymakers, and market participants — reinforcing our role as a convener across the financial and governance ecosystems.

“It was inspiring to speak with so many ambitious young students,” said Raffaela Tschernitz, Parliamentary Assistant to MEP Evelyn Regner. “The atmosphere and the discussions were wonderful.”

Leaving Brussels with Momentum

By the end of the week, energy filled the room. Students left describing themselves as “motivated,” “driven,” and “empowered.”

“The environment made me feel as though anything is possible,” one participant wrote afterward. “It felt like the world was waiting for me when I left on Friday.”

Moments like that are what Bloomberg Finance Pathways is built for — helping young people see not just the world of finance, but their place within it. Because when we invest in access, we’re not only changing lives. We’re shaping the future of the industry itself.
