Hong Kong Family Office Nexus Releases Guide for Family Offices Establishing and Expanding in Hong Kong

Hong Kong – Bloomberg, in collaboration with the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau of the HKSAR Government (FSTB) and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), today announced the publication of The Family Office Playbook, a comprehensive guide designed to assist family offices establishing or expanding their presence in Hong Kong.

The launch of The Family Office Playbook (“the Playbook”), which is the newest component of Hong Kong Family Office Nexus – an initiative celebrating its first anniversary this month – underscores Hong Kong’s commitment to its role as a world-leading hub for family offices.

The Playbook provides a structured approach to navigating Hong Kong’s regulatory, financial, and operational landscape. It offers practical guidance across various critical aspects of family office operations, enriched by first-hand insights from leading family offices in Hong Kong and around the world. Within the Playbook, senior executives from NF Trinity, Landmark Family Office, the Harilela family and the Private Wealth Management Association, contribute practical perspectives on establishing and managing family wealth structures in Hong Kong.

The Playbook addresses key considerations including:

• Strategic Establishment: Practical steps and frameworks for setting up a family office in Hong Kong, encompassing governance, legal structures, and strategic planning.
• Regulatory Navigation: Guidance on Hong Kong’s regulatory environment, including licensing requirements and compliance standards specific to wealth management.
• Investment & Asset Management: Insights into investment opportunities, asset allocation strategies, and Hong Kong’s diverse financial markets.
• Operational Efficiency: Best practices for day-to-day operations, technology integration, and talent management.
• Succession & Philanthropy: Practical advice on intergenerational wealth transfer, legacy planning, and philanthropic engagement with Hong Kong-specific context.

In addition, as part of the Hong Kong Family Office Nexus, Bloomberg collaborated with the Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy to host an impactful storytelling workshop on October 3. Led by communications experts, the workshop equipped family office spokespeople with practical tools to effectively tell their own stories and craft compelling narratives for greater impact, further enhancing the community’s hands-on skills in line with the Playbook’s guidance.
