CAMAHK and Bloomberg Host Sixth Annual Offshore China Fund Awards

Hong Kong – Bloomberg and the China Asset Management Association of Hong Kong (CAMAHK) announced the winners at their sixth annual Offshore China Fund Awards in Hong Kong. Leading Chinese asset managers and industry leaders across the region attended the virtual awards ceremony, where a total of 35 awards were distributed to firms for their performance and contributions to China’s offshore fund industry. The award rankings, calculated using proprietary methodologies from data compiled by Bloomberg, are available on the Bloomberg Terminal.

Keynote speeches were delivered by Paul Chan, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong SAR Government, Christopher Hui, JP, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Julia Leung, SBS, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Securities and Futures Commission and Christina Choi, Executive Director, Securities and Futures Commission Investment Products Division.

Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR Government noted in his speech, “Thanks to the wealth that our asset industry manages, Hong Kong is now the largest hedge fund and second-largest private equity fund in Asia. The launch of the limited partnership funds regime and the upcoming Wealth Management Connect scheme are game changers for the sector and catalyst for the industry, especially with the opportunities presented by the Greater Bay Area.”

Julia Leung, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Intermediaries of the Securities and Futures Commission, added, “Congratulations to this year’s prize winners for their high-quality work in a challenging time. It is truly remarkable for fund companies to pull off such an impressive performance. New opportunities to enter the sizeable market in the Greater Bay Area and harness global trends in ESG and sustainable investments will contribute to the future development of Hong Kong’s fund management industry.”

During a panel discussion with Christopher Hui, JP, Secretary for Financial Services and Treasury, he noted that the financial services industry in Hong Kong has been very resilient and robust despite the pandemic. Product innovation and regulatory support in Hong Kong has also been strong, with the recent launches of REIT and ESG ETFs, illustrating the commitment of the industry to grow the pie. In Hong Kong’s next stage of development, connectivity with the Mainland will strengthen its asset management sector and expand the number of products available to investors, in Hong Kong and globally.

Chairperson of CAMAHK, Madam Chen Ding commented, “As the homeland for offshore Chinese asset management institutions, the Chinese Asset Management Association of Hong Kong was formally established in 2013 to facilitate industry communication, optimize industry self-discipline standards, and improve the competitiveness of Chinese asset management institutions on global stage. Currently, HKCAMA already has one hundred institutional members managing more than 400 mutual funds covering all major asset categories.” She added, “We’re proud each year to host these awards with Bloomberg, who are a trusted all-weather partner during these uncertain economic conditions.
