September 18, 2020

We are proud to announce that Bloomberg has won four awards at the Inside Reference Data and Inside Market Data Awards 2020, revealed today at a virtual ceremony hosted by Waters Technology:

  • Best Reference Data Provider
  • Best Market Data Provider
  • Most Innovative Regulatory Solution – LQA
  • Contract Win of the Year – China Industrial Securities adopted Bloomberg Buy Side Solutions

The Inside Reference Data Awards and Inside Market Data Awards recognize industry excellence within the fields of market data, reference data, and enterprise data management. These awards are decided by a combination of reader surveys and firm submissions.

“This type of recognition is especially significant at a time when market volatility due to COVID-19 has made access to high quality, reliable data more important than ever,” said Brad Foster, Global Head of Enterprise Data Content at Bloomberg. We continue to invest in our solutions and work closely with our clients to solve for their increased demand for comprehensive, high quality and reliable enterprise content and we are honored to be recognized for our work.”

This is the third consecutive year Bloomberg has taken home the Best Reference Data Provider award. Chosen by readers, this speaks to the fact that reference data remains a foundational part of their enterprise data offering. Over the years, Bloomberg has continually invested in increasing the depth and breadth of their reference data, expanding the number of fields previously only available on the Terminal to Enterprise Data clients. This investment includes providing more unique and valuable datasets like ESG, Supply Chain, and Company Financials to help clients make well-informed, strategic decisions as priorities and demands evolve.

Bloomberg also prevailed in the Best Market Data category. “We are especially thrilled to receive this year’s Best Market Data Provider award, as it was selected by a reader survey,” said Tony McManus, CIO of Enterprise Data at Bloomberg. “This win showcases how Bloomberg’s market data offering continues to set the standard for market leading data quality. We continue investing in upgrading our technology components to make our content more widely available and easily accessible to clients who need clean, precise, real-time data.”

As managing risk becomes more and more important to customers, Bloomberg has worked to make data easily available in a variety of ways including via the cloud with providers like AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.

Also recognized this year is Bloomberg’s Liquidity Assessment Solution (LQA), which won the award for Most Innovative Regulatory Solution. LQA provides clients with a unique, data driven framework to assess market liquidity and uses Bloomberg’s vast data catalog along with Machine Learning techniques to identify the statistical relationships of liquidation cost, horizon, volume, and market conditions in order to build a model that predicts liquidation cost and horizon under various scenarios. Finally, Bloomberg received recognition for Best Contract Win of the Year for China Industrial Securities International’s (CISI) adoption of our Buyside Solutions including AIM, BTCA, LQA, and Bloomberg Vault. CISI worked with Bloomberg to prepare for regulatory developments including a recent circular highlighting instances of noncompliance by Hong Kong based asset managers. This ongoing project exemplifies Bloomberg’s approach better understanding and solving client problems.

The annual Inside Market Data and Inside Reference Data Awards, now in their 17th year, play a key role in WatersTechnology’s awards program, and are the only awards that feature a mix of call-for-entry categories determined by a panel of judges and categories compiled by WatersTechnology’s journalists and voted on by the brand’s readership. This year’s awards featured 32 categories in total: 21 call-for-entry categories, 10 journalist-compiled categories, and a hall of fame (lifetime achievement) award, the recipient of which was Mike Meriton, co-founder of the EDM Council and former CEO of GoldenSource.
