Bloomberg partners with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India for the inaugural Global Summit on ‘Reimagining Museums in India’

Virtual 2-day summit to focus on best practices and strategies to develop India’s museums
New Delhi: Bloomberg has partnered with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India for the inaugural 2-Day Global Summit on ‘Reimagining Museums in India’, to be held on 15-16 February 2022. The Global Summit will bring together leading industry experts and practitioners of museum development and management from around the world to discuss best practices and strategies to develop India’s burgeoning cultural sector. Organized under the aegis of India’s ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, to commemorate the country’s 75th Independence Day, the Summit will focus on preserving and perpetuating India’s rich cultural heritage.
Drawing on Bloomberg’s ability to convene visionary artistic voices and deep experience of harnessing technology and innovation to strengthen cultural institutions around the world, the Summit will develop a comprehensive vision for the revitalization of Indian museums and will convene global leaders to develop a strategy and detailed plan to guide the long-term development of the cultural sector. The Summit will also help build strategic partnerships between leading global and Indian museums.
The Summit will be inaugurated by Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Govt. of Indi. Speaking about the summit, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Govt. of India said, “India is a land of rich cultural heritage dating back to the dawn of human civilization. On this, our 75th anniversary of independence as we celebrate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, we are proud to renew our focus and dedication to preserving, protecting, and perpetuating our cultural heritage. India’s 1000+ museums play an instrumental role in not just showcasing and preserving this cultural heritage, but also educating future generations.” Shri Govind Mohan, Secretary, Culture added, “Through the Global Summit on reimagining museums in India, the Ministry of Culture aims to convene key global thought leaders to understand the best approach for developing India’s museums, forging strategic partnerships between Indian and Global museums, and drawing a masterplan for renewal of Indian museums to make them truly world class.”
The Summit will broadly cover the following four themes:
- Architecture and Functional Needs: Best practices on museum layouts, galleries, space and other functional requirements.
- Management: Best practices on cultural management structures, employee management practices and financial viability among others.
- Collections – curation and conservation practices: Best practices on storage, display, conservation and related issues.
- Education and Audience Engagement: Best practices and techniques on communication, visitor experience and technology (both onside and online)
