Bloomberg News celebrates new Brasilia office

New space shows the growth of the reporting team in Brasília, which has multiplied six fold in the last decade
Bloomberg News celebrated the opening of a new office in Brasília. The change of address to a larger space reflects the company’s dedication to continue to serve clients with real time news from the Brazilian capital.
At an event held on March 8 to celebrate the opening of the new space, Bloomberg News hosted a group of clients, government officials and reporters to discuss the outlook for Brazil’s economy. Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles, Speaker of the House Rodrigo Maia and Planning Minister Dyogo Oliveira spoke on a panel and answered questions about the need to pass structural reforms to support an economic rebound ahead of next year’s presidential elections. Senator Romero Jucá, government leader in the Senate, Government Minister Antonio Imbassahy, and PMDB leader in the House of Representatives, Baleia Rossi, also attended the event.
“We are very proud to announce the opening of this new office. With even more space, we can accommodate our ever-growing reporting team, as well as customers and colleagues,” said Raymond A. Colitt, bureau chief of Bloomberg News in Brasília. In the last decade, Bloomberg’s team in the regional branch has grown six times its original size.
“The inauguration of the new office shows Bloomberg News’s commitment to providing the best coverage from the political center of the country. At this pivotal time in Brazil’s history, the ability to provide accurate information in real-time is essential for our clients and to maintaining our reputation as one of the most influential news organizations,” said Daniel Cancel, managing editor for Bloomberg News in Latin America.
Located near the Esplanada dos Ministérios, the new office is staffed with reporters and editors mostly dedicated to covering politics and economics. The new facility has meeting rooms and also an auditorium for training and presentations. For the design, a local architect was hired and local cultural influences were used. One such detail is the cobogó screen and the wood paneling, which are rooted in modern Brazilian architecture, for which Brasília is known for. The wood paneling and green colors recall the rain forest.
Bloomberg News is the news division of Bloomberg LP and also has offices in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
