Leading Companies From Around the City Raced in Support of Habitat for Humanity
San Francisco – Aug 4, 2017: Yesterday, more than 45 teams from San Francisco’s leading tech and financial services companies raced against each other at the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay in the heart of San Francisco. Champions Dodge & Cox took the coveted trophy and the title of “fastest firm in the city,” completing ten laps of the one-mile course on Pier 27 in 58 minutes and 25 seconds.
“The relay was a ton of fun! Everyone came out to support an amazing cause in Habitat for Humanity and it was a great opportunity for some team bonding. We really let our competitive spirits flow,” said Katie Fast, team captain of winning team, Dodge & Cox.
Coming in close behind Dodge & Cox in second place was Bank of America Merrill Lynch with a time of one hour, one minute and 33 seconds, and Wells Fargo (Pony Express) in third place with a time of one hour, two minutes and 10 seconds. Individually, the fastest runner of the night, with a single mile time of five minutes and 10 seconds, was Brandon Vest from Wells Fargo (Pony Express). Yelp was the ‘Fastest Mixed Team’ with a combined running time of one hour, two minutes and 28 seconds.
“The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a unique sporting event which offers a perfect opportunity for the city’s most competitive runners to come together for a night of camaraderie, teamwork, celebration and networking. The feedback from participating companies has been phenomenal and it’s great to see so many companies join us for this inaugural race in San Francisco, which now joins nine other cities across the world that host the relay annually,” said Nick Keller, Managing Director of event organizer Square Mile Sport.
In keeping with the commitment of giving back to the local community, during the post-race awards ceremony Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco were presented with a charitable contribution of $20,000 to help support the non-profit organization. In addition, runners and their families and friends are invited to take part in a Volunteer Day on Saturday, September 9th in the Bayview neighborhood to help repair homes and community facilities, clean up parks, and plant gardens. This partnership builds upon Bloomberg’s service-focused commitment to the cities where they have offices and honors the company’s decade-long commitment to the impactful work of Habitat for Humanity.
The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay San Francisco will return next year, but the baton now passes to Shanghai on September 15th, and then to London on September 21st. Ten cities across the world now host the global relay series, including Dubai, London, New York, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney and Tokyo.
