Geneva, March 29, 2017 — Bloomberg kicked off its International China investor roadshow in Geneva today, which convened top Chinese and Swiss government officials, market participants and financial institutions. The global roadshow, themed “China: Navigate the New Silk Road” starts in Geneva and will travel to over 10 cities this year to update investors and financial professionals on China’s economic outlook and its future investment trends.

Last year, Switzerland took an important step towards becoming a renminbi trading hub with the Zurich branch of China Construction Bank authorized to operate as a clearing bank for renminbi transactions. China is one of Switzerland’s biggest trading partners, and Switzerland was the first country among the world’s top 20 to have a free trade agreement with China.

“The Belt and Road Initiative is an important part of our effort to build partnerships in the region and the world,” said Minister Jiang Duan, Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nation’s office at Geneva and Other International Delegations in Switzerland. “It will help close the gap of development, speed up regional integration and bring about prosperity for all.”

Keynote speeches at the event were delivered by Mr. Guillaume Barazzone, Mayor of Geneva who will speak about China-Switzerland relations; and Minister Jiang Duan, Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nation’s office at Geneva and Other International Delegations in Switzerland, who discussed China’s economic outlook and its ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.

Other speakers at the event included senior executives from the Bank of China, China Construction Bank, K2K Capital and Lombard Odier. Panelists discussed China’s marco-economic situation, its fixed income market opportunities, and foreign exchange and investment trends.

“Bloomberg is in a unique position to help investors find new opportunities, by connecting Chinese companies to global markets and foreign investors to China’s vast capital markets,” said Ee Chuan Ng, Head of Bloomberg China. “China’s initiatives such as the Belt and Road initiative aim to drive the next generation of Chinese economic growth, so it’s important that global companies and investors in Switzerland understand the plan and the opportunities it presents.”

In its sixth year, Bloomberg’s China investor roadshow will cover over 10 cities worldwide in 2017 including Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, London and New York.
