Bloomberg Welcomes HEAF

January 21, 2014

In recognition of National Mentoring Month and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service, Bloomberg’s Black Professional Community (BPC) delivered an enriching company overview program to Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) Fellows on January 9th.

The BPC promotes Bloomberg’s overall diversity and inclusion objectives including discovery of diverse top talent. HEAF is a Bloomberg sponsored nonprofit organization that changes the lives of underserved young people through academic enrichment, social and cultural programs beginning in middle school and continuing through college and beyond.

The HEAF students’ day began with a tour of the office followed by a networking breakfast with 10 BPC members who served as “mentors for the day”, providing career and personal advice inspiring the students about life after college. The students then received a traditional “new hire” style Bloomberg presentation and learned about career and internship opportunities. This is what some of the participants had to say:

“Bloomberg was nothing like what I was expecting- a large, global company! It has a tight-knit community feel to it, a beautiful facility and I love that every employee (no matter) what level, has a similar entry/training experience. Thank you for the amazing experience.” – HEAF Fellow

“The best part of the day was talking with the mentors about their career paths and learning how they used their education to contribute to the company.” – HEAF Fellow

“My experience today was completely amazing! I have heard many great things from Bloomberg but this was like something out of a movie. Everything from the fishtanks, to the people was beyond nice. My favorite part about today was experiencing the “new hire” process video and talk. The only thing I would change about today would be the length- this should have been an all day event! Thank you” – HEAF Fellow

“The presentation was great. Very informative and practical. I learned a lot about the terminals and the fast paced environment at Bloomberg. I would definitely consider working here in the future” – HEAF Fellow
