On June 9, Bloomberg CEO and President Dan Doctoroff was the featured speaker at the Diploma and Hooding Ceremony for the class of 2012 of his alma mater, The University of Chicago School of Law. Doctoroff (Class of ’84) fondly recalled his time on campus and the life lessons and experiences he shared with his classmates:
“We succeeded and failed together, we were intimidated together, we gained confidence together.”
Doctoroff said that while he is not a practicing lawyer, he has had diverse jobs throughout his career, and each experience led him to his true passion. He encouraged the graduates to “lace up [their] boots and stomp around a little bit” before settling on a career.
Here’s how he opened the speech.
