May 21, 2014

Reflects Major Global Expansion Effort and New Direction to Empower Regional Media Leadership and Increase Customization of Media Products for Distinct International Markets

Hong Kong — Bloomberg Media Group CEO Justin B. Smith today announced that Parry Ravindranathan has been appointed as the first Managing Director of Bloomberg Media for Asia-Pacific, responsible for leading Bloomberg’s entire multi-platform media operation – web, mobile, television, digital video, print magazines and live events – across the region. The new leadership structure reflects Bloomberg Media’s new strategy to expand its global media footprint beyond television to multiple media platforms. Ravindranathan’s appointment will ensure Bloomberg’s consumer media content, ad products, distribution and licensing deals are carefully tailored to serve each distinct, individual market. The new management structure is part of Bloomberg’s new global media strategy, first outlined by Smith in March. Ravindranathan assumes his new role this week, and will be based out of Hong Kong.

Over the last three years, Ravindranathan has led Bloomberg TV in Asia-Pacific, expanding its commercial partnerships and delivering a strong, award-winning product. In his new role, Ravindranathan will apply his entrepreneurial spirit to all Bloomberg Media properties in Asia-Pacific markets, across TV, digital and live events. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Ravindranathan worked at Al Jazeera in Qatar and CNBC-TV18 in India.

“Our global assets are already unrivaled in the media industry, but we are reaching for the next level by investing and expanding around the world,” said Bloomberg Media CEO Justin B. Smith. “We have major ambitions in Asia and we are appointing now, for the first time, a leader to oversee all operations in the region. Parry has proven himself to be one of Bloomberg Media’s most entrepreneurial leaders, with a keen eye for identifying opportunities for monetization and expansion. He is going to bring his leadership to all our platforms — web, mobile, TV, digital video, print, and live events — with an emphasis on developing our new digital channels and audiences.”

“We have an incredible opportunity right now to take Bloomberg Media to the next level of growth in Asia,” said Parry Ravindranathan. “We will continue to build on the successes of our various media properties and the strength of our content, talent, local programming and partnerships. There is a real opening for us in this region to make an impact with global and local audiences, and build a digital-led, multi-platform media company that will continue to invest and innovate for years to come.”
