Commitment to sustainability: tips for sustainable living

April 20, 2020

In these changing and uncertain times, it’s important not to lose sight of the climate crisis, and how we can do our part. As much of the world is working from home and experiencing real disruption to normal routine, it can be a challenge to continue to live sustainably or find opportunities to make a difference.

At Bloomberg, our commitment to our environment and to combating climate change remains strong. This Earth Day, we’re sharing easy tips to help us all live more sustainably, even in unprecedented circumstances.

Working from home? Save energy by setting your computer’s sleep mode to kick in a little sooner, especially after you log off for the day.

Instead of adjusting the thermostat in your home, adjust your layers. Putting on or taking off a hoodie uses zero fossil fuel.

It’s so simple, so obvious, so efficient. When working at home, turn off the lights when you leave the room. Choose energy-efficient bulbs when it’s time to replace.

Bottled water adds millions of tons of plastic to the waste stream every year. Whenever possible, opt to drink tap water instead.

Like the look of the Bloomberg Terminal’s iconic interface? Switch your smartphone to dark mode to conserve energy and battery life.

Meatless Monday is a great way for non-vegetarians to limit the environmental impact of meat consumption one day a week.

Reduce waste by opting in to consolidated shipping and opting out of additional packaging for online orders.

Plastic takeout containers can be washed thoroughly and repurposed indefinitely. Wait until they’re no longer functional before recycling.
