Former Senator and Defense Secretary William Cohen Named World Affairs Contributor for Bloomberg TV

May 20, 2015

Bloomberg Television today announced that former Defense Secretary William Cohen has been named World Affairs Contributor. Cohen will appear regularly on the network to provide analysis and commentary on domestic and international issues and events.

Cohen served in Congress for 24 years and was a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Intelligence Committee and the Government Oversight Subcommittee. In 1974, he was a member of the House Judiciary Committee that investigated White House actions which led to impeachment charges against President Nixon.  In 1987, as a U.S. Senator, Cohen was appointed to the select Senate committee investigating the sale of weapons to Iran and the funneling of these proceeds to the Contra resistance movement in Nicaragua.

When President Bill Clinton nominated him to lead the Department of Defense in 1997, it was the first time in modern U.S. history when a President chose an elected official from the other party to be a member of his cabinet.

“I am excited to help Bloomberg viewers around the world better understand the intersection of government and business,” said Cohen.

“We selected Secretary Cohen as contributor because of his global reputation for non-partisan and thoughtful analysis, which complements Bloomberg’s editorial coverage as we continue to develop multi-platform content viewing experiences,” said Claudia Milne, head of Bloomberg Television in the U.S.

Cohen is Chairman and CEO of The Cohen Group, a global business consulting firm with offices in Washington, Beijing and Delhi.  He serves on the boards of the U.S. – China Business Council and the U.S. – India Business Council.
