Tsinghua Global Business Journalism Program Celebrates 10th Anniversary
December 19, 2016
Tsinghua University’s Global Business Journalism Program (GBJ) celebrated its 10th anniversary last week in Beijing with hosts including Matthew Winkler, co-founder and Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of Bloomberg News; Joyce Barnathan, president of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ); Professor Chen Changfeng, executive dean of the School of Journalism and Communication; and Associate Professor Hang Min, GBJ co-director.
The event coincided with an upgrade for the Bloomberg Financial Lab at the School of Journalism and funding to expand the GBJ program, which now includes more than 300 masters-degree graduates.
Started in September 2007 by the ICFJ and Tsinghua University, GBJ was the first international master’s program in China created to foster top-notch business reporters and editors. Bloomberg was a founding patron and is now sole corporate sponsor.

More than 300 students have graduated from the program since 2007, about half Chinese and the remainder representing 35 countries. GBJ alumni now work in top Chinese and international media organizations such as Bloomberg News, China Daily, CCTV, People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Newsweek China, and KBS.
Bloomberg Editor-at-Large Lee Miller is a full-time, pro-bono professor for the program. His courses include financial reporting, analysis and corporate strategies.
