Indonesia’s Leading University, Universitas Diponegoro opens first Bloomberg Finance Lab in Indonesia

Semarang – Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), one of Indonesia’s top universities, and Bloomberg, the global financial information and technology company, today announced the opening of the first Bloomberg Finance Lab in Indonesia. Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir, Ph.D, Ak, Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Republic of Indonesia was the guest-of-honour at the official opening ceremony.
Universitas Diponegoro joins more than 800 universities worldwide with Bloomberg Terminals or Finance Labs. The new facility in the university’s school of business will have 12 Bloomberg Terminals for business and economics undergraduates and postgraduates.

“The Bloomberg Finance Lab will greatly enhance the skills and professional marketability of our undergraduate and graduate students in finance, accounting and business,” said Suharnomo, Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro. “We are also looking to expand our international exchange programs with top business universities from around the world and believe the launch of the lab will help connect our students to global financial markets.”

The Bloomberg Terminal is a software platform that provides real-time and historical data, market moving news and analytics to help leading business and financial professionals worldwide make better informed investment decisions. The service also features execution platforms for every asset class, research and a global network to communicate securely and reliably.
The Bloomberg Finance Lab will help undergraduate and graduate students build the skills needed for a career in finance. Students will also have access to Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC), an e-learning certification course, and CFAPRO, a database that maps the CFA Institute Candidate Body of Knowledge to over 387 relevant Bloomberg Terminal functions.
Students of the undergraduate and master’s programs will receive training on the use of the Terminal, as well as courses on investment, risk and portfolio management. The lab will also be accessible to the university’s academic community to conduct research projects.
Since 1999, Bloomberg has been working with local banks, corporations and government agencies to advance Indonesia’s financial market infrastructure and enhance transparency and efficiency, through its data, news and analytics. In 2016, Bloomberg’s foreign exchange trading platform was integrated into Bank Indonesia’s real-time trade monitoring system SISMONTAVAR for seamless transaction and post-trade reporting. In 2017, Bloomberg launched a reverse repo analysis and trading platform to deepen Indonesia’s money market. Together with the Mutual Funds Association of Indonesia, Bloomberg has also been recognising top performing local funds with the APRDI-Bloomberg Indonesia Fund Awards since 2014. From 1 June 2018, Indonesian rupiah-denominated debt was included in the Bloomberg Global Aggregate Index (Index) for the first time.
