Bloomberg Markets Editor Christine Harper Co-Authors Book Topping “Best of 2018” Lists
December 20, 2018
Christine Harper, editor of Bloomberg Markets magazine, has co-authored a book the Financial Times named “one of the Best Economic Books of 2018.”
“Keeping At It: The Quest for Sound Money and Good Government” is the memoir of Paul Volcker, co-written by Harper. Volcker was Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank from 1979 – 1987 and served under six U.S. presidents, ranging from John F. Kennedy to Barack Obama.
This is Harper’s first book and she was hand-picked by the publisher, PublicAffairs, to work with Volcker, now 91. “He had a clear idea of the story he wanted to tell,” she said of collaborating with Volcker. “I was there to help him pull it all together.”

The Financial Times said Volcker’s memoir is the “testament of the most important official working in economic policy of the last generation.” Ed Conway, writing in The Times of London, said of Volcker that “it’s hard to think of another living person who has had more influence on the world today.” Vanguard founder Jack Bogle called the book “a narrative that no educated American should miss.” Bloomberg Opinion’s Barry Ritholtz also put it at the top of his list of best books.

Michael Bloomberg celebrated the book and its authors on Twitter, saying “The book highlights Paul’s extraordinary career and personal integrity, as well as his belief in the need for better governance – and I couldn’t agree more.”
Harper has been under the Bloomberg News umbrella for more than 20 years and led its global coverage of financial institutions before moving to the bi-monthly Bloomberg Markets in January.
During her first year, the magazine secured a rare interview with Fidelity Investments’s CEO Abigail Johnson. Other cover subjects included the Bank of England’s Mark Carney, AQR’s Cliff Asness and the Carlyle Co-CEOs Glenn Youngkin and Kewsong Lee. Harper said the magazine will remain devoted to bringing exclusive insight into global market trends and regulatory changes.
Through her career at Bloomberg, Harper has received awards from the New York Press Club, the Society of the Silurians, and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
