IMAS-Bloomberg Investment Conference Convenes Asia’s Thought Leaders to Address Top Issues Impacting Asset Management

March 25, 2019

IMAS Bloomberg Investment Conference

Singapore – The Investment Management Association of Singapore (IMAS) and Bloomberg today announced that the IMAS-Bloomberg Investment Conference 2019 will take place in Singapore on 9 May, 2019 at the Marina Bay Sands Convention and Expo Centre.

As the leading buy-side event in Asia with more than 300 attendees expected, the IMAS-Bloomberg Investment Conference 2019 will convene thought leaders and industry experts to discuss pertinent issues faced by the investment management industry and seek collective solutions.

As the representative body of the Singapore investment management industry, IMAS regularly surveys its members on key challenges and themes that the industry should be addressing. In IMAS’ annual Investment Managers’ Survey for 2018, political risks and uncertainty ranked as the top concern for Singapore investment managers. Over a third of the investment managers surveyed also cited risk of business disruption from new financial technologies as one of the biggest threats to the industry’s growth in Singapore. These issues, among others, will be discussed at the conference as the industry continues to evolve in the wake of new pressures.

Eleanor Seet, President and Director, Nikko Asset Management Asia Limited and Chair of the IMAS Conference Organising Committee, said: “IMAS is delighted to feature this inaugural partnership with Bloomberg to mark our 20th Annual Conference. This comes at the time where the investment management industry globally is undergoing momentous change. Against this backdrop, we hope to respond by taking our conference to new heights and make it the most significant buy-side event in the region.

The conference theme ‘Reimagining Tomorrow’ demonstrates our common goal to come together and to spur the investment management industry to reinvent itself for the benefit of the clients we serve. With the industry’s push towards innovation, asset managers must continue to play an important role as catalysts for change in Singapore’s broader financial ecosystem and throughout the region.”

“We are pleased to co-host IMAS’ 20th annual investment conference, and hope to facilitate constructive dialogue and innovative solutions to address investment challenges in today’s geopolitical, digital world,” added Maggie Ng, Head of ASEAN, Bloomberg. “We are here to support Singapore investment managers on their technology journeys and help them advance business opportunities in the region and beyond.”

The conference will feature panel discussions to address top issues the industry is facing – the impact of geopolitics on markets, how asset managers can embrace new technologies to achieve greater operational efficiencies, the next big investment trends in new technologies and the value of alternative investing for future asset allocation. The conference programme will also focus on the prominence and development of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies within the industry.

Importantly, the conference will showcase the IMAS Digital Accelerator Programme (DAP), an accelerator and mentorship programme that provides Fintechs with a platform to deliver solutions to key challenges facing the asset management industry. As part of the DAP finale, the top 10 Fintechs will pitch the solutions which they have worked on with their DAP partners. These include: Aberdeen Standard Investments, Blackrock, Dymon Asia, KPMG Digital Village, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Nikko Asset Management, NUS Enterprise, SGX, Schroders, UBS Asset Management, UOB Asset Management and Cognito.
