Bloomberg Hosts Top Brazilian Investment Fund CEOs and Managers

August 23, 2023

Artificial intelligence, machine learning and quantitative management were discussed at 2023 Brazil Buy-Side Forum

Interest rates, talent and technology are the top issues facing Brazil’s investment management industry, which has more than USD 1.5 trillion under management, Bloomberg announced today.

The challenges were discussed by more than 100 leading industry executives who attended the Bloomberg 2023 Buy-Side Forum held in São Paulo recently. The Brazil event is one of 10 planned globally and joins those already held in London, Mumbai and Toronto.

In Brazil, there are over 800 asset management companies. CEOs of three of these firms spoke about the current state of their industry:

  • Allan Hadid, Head of BTG Pactual Asset Management – “When interest rates normalize, investors will be open to different investments such as exchange traded funds (ETFs).”
  • Bruno Funchal, CEO of Bradesco Asset Management – “We are already using artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze the tone of central bank meetings.”
  • Denisio Liberato, CEO of BB Asset Management, the largest asset manager in Brazil – “More than predicting the future, we need to create it. Artificial intelligence, new technologies and ESG are our drivers.”

Getting the right talent was ranked as the number one issue in Brazil’s asset management industry today, according to a survey of the more than 400 who participated in the event in-person and online.

Attendees agreed that the most critical decision being made by investment management industry executives now is about technology. Those who have the most advanced tools will have a competitive advantage.

“Fund managers need to focus on implementing data-driven strategies”, said Jorge Larangeira, CIO and Founding Partner at Giant Steps Capital, the largest quant hedge fund manager in Brazil.

“Artificial intelligence and machine learning are powerful and will increasingly play an important role in helping buy-side executives make the most informed investment decisions”, said Bruno Dupire, Bloomberg’s Head of Quantitative Research.
