Bloomberg Connects Adds Video Tour of Chilean Sculptor’s UK Show
May 25, 2022
Fernando Casasempere’s work can be viewed globally with Spanish subtitles
Bloomberg today announced that Chilean sculptor Fernando Casasempere’s latest installation, on display at London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE gallery, can be viewed globally.
Casasempere’s “Scratching the Surface” exhibit draws inspiration from the landscape of Chile and the enigmatic nature of the ancient Roman temple that was discovered on the site in 1954. The artist’s large-scale ceramic sculptures are placed on an industrial conveyor belt reminiscent of archaeological excavations. The works will be on display at London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE in London until July 22.
Now, audiences globally can learn how the geology, topology and history of Chile helped to inspire the artist in this video online in English with Spanish subtitles. More information about the exhibit can be seen via the Bloomberg Connects app. The app can be downloaded via Google Play or the App Store. Audiences can listen and watch the artist speak in English and Spanish to learn more about his work.
Casasempere has had numerous exhibitions around the world, including current exhibition Terra showing at The San Diego Museum of Art through September 5, 2022.
About the artist:
Casasempere works with clay, ceramics, and industrial materials, redefining the possibilities of these materials for contemporary sculpture. Through his fascination with the footprint left by humans on the earth, he draws inspiration from archaeology, geology, landscape, and classical and modern architecture to subvert sculptural archetypes, while speaking to pressing global ecological and social concerns through the lens of his native Chile: when he moved to London in 1997, he brought with him over 12 tons of his own Chilean clay mixes, reusing materials and waste from mining processes to create works of art.
