Bloomberg LP Chairman Peter T. Grauer Signs The Hispanic Promise
September 10, 2020
Bloomberg LP today announced that its Chairman, Peter T. Grauer, has signed The Hispanic Promise, the first-of-its-kind national pledge to hire, promote, retain and celebrate Hispanics in the workplace. By joining more than 150 other corporations in a public commitment to champion Hispanics in the U.S. workplace, Bloomberg is reinforcing its company-wide effort to promote inclusion globally, including initiatives to source and advance underrepresented talent throughout the company.
Launched at the World Economic Forum in 2019 in Davos, Switzerland by the We Are All Human Foundation, the Hispanic Promise is a non-legally binding sign of intention, result of the joint effort of multiple Hispanic Organizations as a call to action for business leaders and companies of Corporate America to create a more inclusive work environment for Hispanics.
“Bloomberg joins the growing movement of companies that are creating a more inclusive environment for Hispanics,” said Grauer. “This pledge affirms Bloomberg’s commitment to supporting our Latinx employees, ensuring they feel valued and, above all, heard in our diverse and inclusive workplace.”
In order to increase representation of Latinx employees in its U.S. workforce, especially in management roles, Bloomberg has taken steps ensuring access to development and growth opportunities at every stage of their careers, promoting real and sustained conversations about race to foster inclusion, and focusing on the business case for ethnic inclusion, as well as the moral one.
Some of the many ongoing initiatives developed and led by Bloomberg’s global Inclusion teams that focus on the hiring, promotion, retention, development and celebration of Latinx employees include:
- Investing in more inclusive hiring practices – this includes the creation of dedicated diversity recruiting and sourcing teams to seek out talent for both entry-level and experienced roles from various ethnicities, such as the Latinx community. They are focused on reaching out to Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) in order to source talent from schools that serve large populations of Latinx and Hispanic students.
- Building strategic partnerships with global partners and non-profits – to broaden and strengthen our pipeline of diverse talent at all levels, our inclusion, recruitment, and corporate philanthropy teams are collaborating closely with our partners in the Latinx community. Some of the company’s partners include the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), Project Basta, Per Scholas, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
- Promoting academic achievement and career readiness – many Bloomberg Startup programs reach Latinx and other underserved youth in cities where we live and work.
- Leadership development programs – Our Growth, Opportunities, Access, and Leadership (GOAL) 1.0 program, which was started in 2016 in EMEA and was recently adapted for the Americas and Asia, has helped enhance the careers of both women and ethnically diverse employees. Earlier this year, we launched the GOAL 2.0 program to accelerate the growth potential of high-performing Black and Latinx employees in the U.S.
- Departmental initiatives supporting up-and-coming leaders – Programs like our Multicultural Engineering Leadership Development (MELD) program provide sources of mentorship, sponsorship and additional development, further broadening our talent and leadership pipeline.
- Community engagement – The Bloomberg Latinx Community (BLC) now includes a Bloomberg Latinx in Tech (BLC Tech) community, which aims to advance, develop and retain Latinx talent in technology roles across the company.
“At this point in time, when race is really front and center as a conversation in all organizations, our public commitment to The Hispanic Promise strongly demonstrates to our Latinx employees how committed we are on a number of different facets to engaging with them,” said Chris Michel, Head of Diversity & Inclusion, Americas. “Our signing on to The Hispanic Promise is a really strong way to demonstrate our sharp focus on providing members of the Latinx community with opportunities to grow and develop and have the sort of careers that they want.”
In addition to signing the promise, Bloomberg has received numerous accolades for its commitment to diversity and inclusion, earning a 100 percent rating on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for 4 years straight and being named the Second Most Inclusive Employer in the UK by Inclusive Companies. In addition, the company’s ethnically diverse leaders have regularly been recognized as role models by The Black British Business Awards, Powerlist, and EMpower.
