CFLI India

We’re advancing public-private collaboration to unlock private climate finance in support of India’s energy transition.

India, which accounts for 7% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, is taking bold steps to decarbonize its economy. As part of its Paris Agreement commitments, the country has set the ambitious goal of building 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Some $87 billion has been invested in India’s renewable energy sector in the past decade, while India’s power sector transition presents a nearly $650 billion investment opportunity across generation, storage, and grid infrastructure, according to BloombergNEF. Private capital will be crucial, in addition to available public and existing finance, to deliver these investments.

Our work

CFLI India is accelerating efforts to unlock and mobilize private capital for sustainable infrastructure investments.

We’re doing this in two complementary ways:

  • Engaging with the Government of India and the multilateral community to strengthen the enabling environment for private capital
  • Partnering with local stakeholders to mobilize capital through existing or new financing vehicles tailored to market needs

Our work is designed to further accelerate domestic and international investment into India’s low-carbon transition, opening access to rapidly growing offshore pools of sustainable capital.
