Birthdate: 1962
Family: Married, No children

Chen was born the second oldest son to a family of seven in Zhongshan in southern China's Guangdong province in 1962. At age 23, Chen and his four brothers started a factory making furniture in their hometown. The company -- Zhongshan Dynasty Furniture -- is the predecessor of Agile Property Holdings.

With the capital amassed from the furniture business, the brothers started building holiday homes targeting Hong Kong buyers in 1992. They shifted focus to Chinese buyers after Hong Kong’s economy was damped by the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

The residential property-focused company raised $406 million in an initial share sale in Hong Kong in 2005. JPMorgan bought 4.83 percent of the company, becoming its second-biggest shareholder, after Chen’s family. The U.S. bank has increased its stake to 5.33 percent as of the end of 2012.

In August 2012, Chen was arrested by police in Hong Kong and charged with indecent assault. He later pleaded not guilty and a Hong Kong court dismissed the charges in March after the prosecution offered no evidence against him.
