Overview

Li is the founder and chairman Beijing Shiji Information Technology, a publicly traded software provider. The Beijing-based company sells management information systems to the hotel industry and began trading on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2007. It was announced in September 2014 that it would sell a 15 percent stake to Alibaba Group's Taobao Software unit for $458 million.

Li Zhongchu is a Chinese citizen and serves as chairman of Beijing Shiji Information Technology, a software developer for the hotel industry. He studied space physics at Wuhan University and received a master's degree in engineering, with a specialization in optoelectronics technology. His thesis was published in the Journal of Atomic & Molecular Physics.

After graduation, Zhongchu worked at the aerospace research institute and at a government ministry, doing IT repair work. He set up his first shop from his bedroom and started Beijing Shiji Information Technology in 1998. Today, it makes software for chains such as Shangri-La, Sheraton, Grand Hyatt and Marriott.

The company began trading on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2007. Alibaba Group Holding, the Internet company controlled by billionaire Jack Ma, acquired a 15 percent stake seven years later.

Zhongchu is married and lives in Beijing.
