Biography

Birthdate: 1935
Family: Married, No children

Born in Hong Kong in 1935, Tang became an apprentice at a shoe shop when he was 15, honing his shoe-making skills. After eight years, Tang opened a workshop in Kowloon, Hong Kong before opening his first footwear shop in 1969.

Tang was one of the first businessmen from Hong Kong to work with suppliers from mainland China. As China embarked on economic reform in the late 1970s, Tang started to provide designs to Chinese factories and bought the goods when completed.

In a move to further tap the Chinese market, Tang started a company in Shenzhen, a southern city neighboring Hong Kong, in 1987. He founded Belle International in 1991 as a shoe wholesale manufacturer and the company expanded into retail in 2004. Belle raised $1.1 billion in an initial public offering in Hong Kong in 2007.

Belle's IPO investors included a holding company linked to Groupe Arnault, parent of French luxury goods group LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Belle offers a wide range of footwear products, including Staccato, Teemix, Basto Millie's, and Joy & Peace. It also distributes Nike and Adidas products in China.
