Murphy is the co-founder of Snap, the company with more than 170 million daily active users of its Snapchat mobile application. Bobby Murphy was born in July 1988. He studied at Stanford University where he joined the same fraternity as Evan Spiegel and Reggie Brown. The trio collaborated on Picaboo, the precursor to Snapchat, in the summer of 2011 shortly before Brown left the company. He later sued and claiming to have come up with the original idea behind Snapchat. The company reached a $158 million settlement with Brown in September 2014, according to Snap's February 2017 prospectus.

Spiegel and Murphy turned down an offer from Facebook to buy Snapchat for $3 billion in 2013. A year later Spiegel apologized for leaked e-mails from his fraternity days that celebrated getting drunk and convincing sorority women to perform sexual acts.

The company was valued at about $20 billion in its March 2017 initial public offering, according to a Bloomberg News report. Murphy lives in LA.
