Evan Spiegel was born on June 4, 1990. He studied at Stanford University where he joined the same fraternity as Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown. The trio collaborated on Picaboo, the precursor to Snapchat, in the summer of 2011 shortly before Brown left the company. He later sued and claiming to have come up with the original idea behind Snapchat. The company reached a $158 million settlement with Brown in September 2014, according to Snap's February 2017 prospectus.

Spiegel turned down an offer from Facebook to buy Snapchat for $3 billion in 2013, and a year later apologized for leaked e-mails from his fraternity days that celebrated getting drunk and convincing sorority women to perform sexual acts.

The company was valued at about $20 billion in its March 2017 initial public offering, according to a Bloomberg News report. Spiegel lives in LA and is engaged to supermodel Miranda Kerr.
