    State-by-State visualizes current and historical economic data and analytics about the U.S. Based on the Economic Health Index, State-by-State includes the latest state unemployment numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (updated monthly), as well as state data on housing, health care, energy production, demographics and more. General election polling data from RealClearPolitics will also be included through the 2012 presidential election.

    Natural gas production is defined as the estimated production of natural gas in cubic feet converted to BTUs (British thermal units) using estimated heat content.

    Oil production is defined as the estimated production of oil in barrels converted to BTUs (British thermal units) using estimated heat content.

Renewable Energy Production

  • Definition

    Renewable energy production is defined as the consumption of all naturally replenished energy sources (geothermal, hydroelectric, solar thermal, wind and wood) except biofuels. Since most of the renewable energy sources are used for generating electric power, production is assumed to equal consumption of those resources in power generation, and is converted to BTUs (British thermal units).
