Nov. 04 (Bloomberg) -- Bloomberg’s David Tweed reports on Volkswagen’s drop in sales in the U.S. and what that means for their goal to be the top selling auto manufacturer by 2018. He speaks on Bloomberg Television’s “On The Move.” (Source: Bloomberg)

America certainly could be an issue for vw -- vw.

They have put out a story about what is going wrong with the strategy.

The brands dropped by 11%. that brought their market share down in october from 4.2% a year earlier.

That is a little bit of a concern.

These reporters managed to get a hold of the chairman.

He was in vienna.

They spoke to him and he said, we understand europe.

We understand china.

We understand brazil.

We only understand the u.s. to a certain degree.

The event -- the volkswagen passat was made for the u.s. market.

It was cheaper for the u.s. market.

It still has yet to crack the top 20 u.s. models.

What are they getting wrong?

That is what i was thinking.

They just want bigger cars.

We are using the volkswagen to drive around the city.

That is one of the things actually.

First is advertising.

It is being outspent two to one on advertising.

The other thing is the product lineup.

The press was supposed to be flanked by u.s. style suvs.

They came up with a concept car but it hasn't yet got the go- ahead.

Even if it gets it now, we won't see that suv in the showrooms until 2016. on the suv market, they have got one, but compare that with the lexus.

It is 11% more expensive.

The americans just aren't buying that.

David, thank you so much.

A fascinating story and one that will keep following very closely.

You also went behind the scenes to check out a different part of the business.

I have come to the volkswagen headquarters in germany.

I'm going to show you one of their least known products.

It is sleek it is well-designed.

It is a little bit fiery.

It is a sausage.

First off, the meat.

It is 100% pork.
