Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Bloomberg's Julie Hyman and Cory Johnson report on Tesla Motors' third-quarter earnings report. They speak on Bloomberg Television's "Street Smart." (Source: Bloomberg)

Estimates, they came out with boston -- with estimates bigger than originally thought.

They expect to deliver them 6000 model s units in the fourth quarter.

The estimates that we saw were somewhere between 5000 and 6000. it looks like it is in line, slightly above that.

The company expects to hit a 25% margin in the fourth quarter.

It looks like on the face of it here that these numbers are looking better than analysts thought.

Still making a profit.

The shares, they are down.

Cory johnson joining us from san francisco.

You and i were talking about tesla just a short time ago, the expectation is that revenues will be stronger than people anticipated.

What you are seeing is from a 30,000 foot view, the stock is separated from the company.

This might not have anything to do with tesla.

Tesla has got to survive.

The company was clever enough to put up an earnings number that got everyone excited.

Then they went and sold a time of stock.

Extended their runway to try to get to a place where they might turn a profit.

They are not there yet and they have a long way to go.

They should not let the tesla model s be a fad.

We know from car companies how difficult this is to do.

Other players are getting into the mix.

You have porsche, bmw.

Others have done this for a lot longer in terms of having made cars and distributed cars for so many years.

It is an exciting idea, it is a really cool car.

There is something wonderful about doing something that seems like it is better for the economy.

This had been a shuttered plant in fremont california but also good for the environment.

That is a good idea but that does not make for a profitable business.

A lot of investors are certain that they will.

Maybe a little bit less certain than they were an hour ago.

As they watch the stock price continued to decline.

Thank you so much, cory johnson.
