Sept. 20 (Bloomberg) -- April Sall, director of the Wildlands Conservancy in Oak Glen, California, talks about obstacles to developing rooftop solar power as an alternative to the construction of industrial-scale solar plants in the Mojave Desert. Some grassroots conservationist groups have objected to a $2.2 billion desert solar installation which, despite having the potential to generate electricity for 140,000 homes without emitting greenhouse gases, could threaten tortoises and other species.
