Some very bad options.

What do you mean by that?

What were the other options?

The other options were to ratchet up the sanctions.

The problem is twofold.

The other come needs -- the other countries, germany, india, china and russia have no interest in ratcheting up sanctions.

Unilateral at -- unilateral sanctions are misled -- are much less effective.

The rainy and have struck a much different tone.

Maybe they don't mean it and they be they will be duplicitous have that -- as they have always been.

But they have made rhetorical and substantive changes.

The iaea says they have cut back on their nuclear drive.

You have to test that at some point.

I think this is the time to test it.

Why is this the time to test it?

Rodgers or perhaps others might say the only reasons the iranians came to the table at all is because they are feeling the pain of the sanctions.

I don't think there is any doubt of that.

They were feeling the pain of the sanctions.

Some point, they're going to say if we don't have any promise of relief, if there's nothing that will change that, why not just go full bore ahead?

We don't do very reliable polls and sign a rant, but i think it's safe to assume the vast majority of people their view that as a matter of national pride.

They say the israelis have their nuclear bomb, pakistan has there's, so they can use the great satan and his sanctions to stay in power.

Nothing is going to unseat that government in the short term.

For progress to be maybe on this point, congress is going to have to get involved, doesn't it?

It is.

Congress can get involved in a constructive way or they can get involved and screw it up, which is always a real possibility with congress.

If they vote to ratchet up the sanctions, it wouldn't be affect this and would pose a real dilemma for obama because he would have to veto that.

If, on the other hand, congress is we're going to ratchet up sanctions in six months or seven months if iran doesn't do a, b, or see, that could give obama and the other countries involved in these negotiations more leverage.

There is some suggestion that pushing for a deal with iran now has less to do with the appropriateness of reaching a deal and more to do with distracting attention from problems at home like obamacare.

What do you make of that?

The number two republican in the senate said that it is the wag the dog theory.

That dog won't hunt.

They have been in these negotiations for several years.

This has been a priority in this region for obama.

I don't know why the germans and the english and the others want to distract attention from obamacare.

I suggest that's not very high on their agenda.

Let me make it as clear as i can -- i don't know this interim deal is going to be a good long- term deal or not.

The history of a rant would certainly make you skeptical.

The key here is we are not trusting, we are verifying.

To paraphrase ronald reagan.

The one key part of this short- term deal is much more intrusive inspections.

If they cheat, there's a greater likelihood they will be caught.

I have to change topics for a minute.

I hear you are going to the redskins game tonight.

You don't look dressed for the weather.

Can you imagine a team that is three and seven and is 25 degrees out -- the only thing i can say in my defense is your producer who is younger and smarter, he is going also.

Good to see you this morning on the holiday week monday.

Al hunt -- he not only knows a lot about a ran, he knows a few things about football as well.

When we come back, how do you get on the bestseller list eight times?

One woman writes about what she loves.

We will talk to the founder of the hungry girl empire when we come back.
