April 30 (Bloomberg) -- In a high-security lab in Connecticut, the world’s largest spirits maker, Diageo, is searching for the next hit flavor. An expert team of mixologist scientists draw from a flavor library of thousands of extracts to create new products for brands like Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Baileys and Captain Morgan. Bloomberg Businessweek’s Venessa Wong got a first-hand look at the process, as well as a pre-release peek at Diageo’s latest product: Captain Morgan 1671.
