Nov. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Jon Erlichman reports on Disney's success at the box office. He speaks on Bloomberg Television's "Bloomberg West." (Source: Bloomberg)

The disney film strategy to make these big calculated brits -- bets on a few brands.

The marvel brand, obviously one of the biggest -- you also highlighted "ironman," more than $1 billion at the box office.

Another marvel movie, "door -- "thor." you have the pixar brand in "monsters university," and then they obviously have selected disney fueled films that are live action.

"oz" is a great example of that.

They work for you closely with the producers.

This is important for disney because they have done fairly well with the animated films out of the disney studio over the last couple of years.

"wreck-it ralph" and "tangled." a lot of that is contributed to pixar, they brought john lasseter on board, but also to bring some new life into what is happening at the disney animation.

So there are some estimates this film could generate more than $40 million at the box office.

We will see how it does.

But it certainly is a symbolically important one for the company.

All right, jon erlichman, our senior west coast correspondent,
