Sept. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Since hydrocarbon jet fuel fires are among the most dangerous that firefighters ever face, airports are required by the FAA to have specialized Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles on standby. Using technology originally intended for military use, these souped-up firetrucks boast features such as monstrous acceleration and special fuselage piercing hoses. Bloomberg traveled to defense contractor Oshkosh's headquarters in Wisconsin to see their ultimate ARFF truck: a 87,000-pound Global Striker.
