April 16 (Bloomberg) -- Retail sales in the U.S. rose 0.8 percent in March, almost three times as large as projected and following a 1 percent advance in February, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s general economic index unexpectedly decreased to 6.6 this month, less than the most pessimistic forecast in a Bloomberg News survey, from 20.2 in March.
