Jan. 13 (Bloomberg)-- Bloomberg's Cam Simpson spoke on Oct. 5 through an interpreter in Burkina Faso with Teonbar Hien, the biological mother of Clarisse Kambire, a foster child forced to work in an organic and fair-trade cotton field in the village of Benvar. In her native Dagara language, the mother explains confusion about the child-worker's name, saying the family always called her "pree-pree," a moniker the child despised. After being left with relatives in Benvar, the girl self-adopted the name Clarisse, the name of an older sister who had died in Ivory Coast more than a decade ago. (Excerpts of the full interview.
