Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The cost of treating pain in the U.S. has tripled in the last decade to about $300 billion, or one in every nine health care dollars. The growth has been fueled by medical entrepreneurs like Gary Kompothecras, a chiropractor catering to car-accident victims. His Ask-Gary referral service spends at a rate of $12.6 million a year advertising its toll-free number, according to Nielsen Holdings N.V. Bloomberg's David Amrstrong and Tom Moroney report.
