Oct. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Addi Brittnacher, a 61-year-old retired machine worker who spends his days caring for vineyards near his home, and the 263-year-old ceramic maker Villeroy & Boch AG, are both based in Saarland, a region in the western corner of Germany wedged between France and Luxembourg. The area is the birthplace of the European integration project that emerged from World War II and culminated in monetary union and the introduction of euro bank notes nine years ago.
