Dec. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Bloomberg's Peter Cook reports on the lead-poisoning crisis in northern Nigeria that was unleashed as villagers unknowingly spewed lead dust while they ground ore for gold. At least 284 children under the age of five have died from lead poisoning in eight villages in Nigeria’s Zamfara state as a result of small-scale gold mining, according to government officials.
