Student Life

With more than 600 on-campus organizations, student interests are almost as diverse as the USC student body itself. The campus used to be noted for its conservative leaning (while governor of the state, Ronald Reagan could visit USC without additional security, a privilege famously not extended to him by the state university system), but in recent years the increasingly diverse population has the campus leaning more to the left. Yet there are several aspects of campus life that almost everyone can rally around. Some 20% of students are Greek-affiliated, while more than 60% of the student body—including those pictured above during Marshall Community Service Day—volunteer their time and effort at community organizations and charities.

Just about all students partake in Saturday festivities surrounding Trojan football, one of the most storied college programs. When archrival UCLA visits USC, the whole campus is on alert for pranks at the expense of Tommy Trojan, which is covered in duct tape during the week leading up to the game to prevent the beloved statue from receiving a powder blue and gold coating. The Trojans have captured more national championships than all but two other universities.
