College of Business

The University of Illinois can thank one of its most revered residents for its creation. The Sage of Springfield, as Abraham Lincoln was sometimes known, signed the Morrill Act into law in 1862, thereby guaranteeing each state public land for the purpose of constructing a university. After enough argument to tire even the Great Debater himself, Urbana was chosen as the site for the university to serve Illinois; in 1868, the Illinois Industrial University opened its doors to local students.

Today, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is the lead campus of the state university system in Illinois. The business school opened its doors in 1915 and consists of an undergraduate program, and part-time, full-time, and executive MBAs, as well as a PhD program. But the school is perhaps best known for an accounting program that has emerged as a perennial contender for the best of its type in the country. Featuring a new central building and an enormous network of alumni, the College of Business takes pride in preparing its students for life after B-school.
