Form and Function

Form and Function

Model: ix35 (aka Tucson)
Maker: Hyundai
Availability: Late 2009/early 2010
Price: €18,200 ($26,575)

Hyundai's ix35 is an updated design with a roomier cabin, extra storage capacity, and improved fuel economy. The company says it was created with new "fluidic design language" to give it a sleeker and less utilitarian look. But it has lots of functional features including legroom and headroom for taller drivers and expanded storage space. The model also will have a new fuel-efficient engine and six-speed transmissions available in manual and automatic. The ix35 will begin production first in Ulsan, Korea, in November 2009, followed by Zilina, Slovakia, in early 2010 and thereafter in Beijing, China.
