Carroll School of Management

Carroll School of Management

Boston College still holds true to the ideals of its Jesuit founders, emphasizing a commitment to personal development and community service. The school was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1863 to serve Boston's Irish community. It has come a long way since that first year, when it had only three teachers and 22 students; today, enrollment totals more than 14,600 and the college employs 679 full-time faculty. Its Carroll School of Management, founded in the mid-20th century, boasts about 2,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students.

The city of Boston was founded in 1630 and is New England's largest. Boston College is in Chestnut Hill, Mass., a western suburb with a strong Jesuit community. BC prides itself on the maintenance of the Jesuit mission, which extends to the Carroll School, where students are encouraged to be curious and ready to serve the community. "BC infuses ethics in its teaching within all function areas," says one MBA graduate surveyed by BusinessWeek. "You can't escape it, nor should you, as employers value this type of individual."
