The high priestess of executive coaching, Annie McKee is famous for her process of "dynamic inquiry." It involves scouring a company up and down to ascertain the shadow culture--the interpersonal poisons that sabotage the smooth functioning of teams. She then sets about defusing the toxicity. A prolific writer on emotional intelligence, McKee's latest, with co-author Richard Boyatzis, is Resonant Leadership. "The fact that so many organizations are so overfocused on short-term results has resulted in serious dysfunction in leadership behavior and corporate cultures," says McKee.
