John Kerry botched his order at a campaign stop at Philadelphia's iconic Pat's Steaks in 2003. Often criticized as a blue blood, Kerry ordered the local classic -- a cheesesteak sandwich -- with Swiss cheese, unaware that connoisseurs simply expect a topping of "whiz," a tangy, orange liquid cheese, generously poured over the famous sub. He "may as well have asked for cave-aged Appenzeller," Craig LaBan, the Philadelphia Inquirer's restaurant critic, wrote, and "made matters worse by delicately nibbling at it as if it were tea toast."
